Google Chrome Auto-Translation Could Boost Website Optimisation

Google’s launch of an automatic translation service to work alongside its Chrome web browser could prove useful for companies looking to boost their website optimisation through organic search.

The new service offers instant translation of web pages, allowing Chrome users to translate a site without any external tools, such as extensions or plug-ins.

Sam Tilston, Search engine optimisation specialist and marketing director at Memorybits.co.uk, said those involved in search engine marketing could harness auto-translation to gain exposure in growing markets such as China.

But is it still worth adding foreign meta tags to try and grab local language search engines now that Google Chrome can handle translation itself?

To ensure that pages of a website are appearing in foreign language search engines, Mr Tilston recommends that there should be some element of that language on the page.

“That does not mean in the meta data, but more along the lines of foreign language within the text of the page, perhaps foreign keywords,” he explained.

Mr Tilston added that he believed auto-translation would become in big trend for website optimisation.

However, he said that website optimisation remained important as it was still necessary for sites to be found by foreign users in order to be translated.

And Mr Tilson warned that while auto-translation could potentially mean bigger audiences, ecommerce sites will have to consider whether they want their pages to be available to overseas visitors who ultimately may be unable to make a purchase.

According to Internet World Statistics, English speakers are the largest group on the web with 478 million users. This is followed by Chinese speakers (384 million) and Spanish speakers (137 million).

Its on! Mac OSX browser wars? Apple Safari? Firefox? Google Chrome? Opera? Microsoft Internet Explorer?

Its on! Mac OSX browser wars? Apple Safari? Firefox? Google Chrome? Opera? Microsoft Internet Explorer?

Ok. Let me explain what my thoughts on these various browsers for Mac OSX. Here are some thoughts:

1. Firefox-it is so slow on my old Mac Mini G4. It is feature rich but what is the point of using if it feels like a half an hour to load up. They even promised a faster version. Also, Firefox has been so wonky lately I cannot get it working my Windows system for some reason. Also, it seems my OSX version has missing important icons with no explanation
2. Safari-quite good and tight and light browser. No complaints on this one but it is my usual default browser.
3. Chrome-I love this browser so much I use it for my Windows system. It is compact, compatible with Mozilla that all the major browsers are built on, and easy to use. The best part is how you tear apart each browsing session and it has it’s own system process. That is quite innovative but you can always expect that from the PHDs at Google.
4. Opera-a fast and rather up to date browser for the Mac OSX operating system. It is not small but as good as Firefox for Mac. Unless you have an Intel processor in your Mac, I would go with Firefox. If not, I would go with Opera.
5. Microsoft Internet Explorer- I do remember that Microsoft developed a really old version of it. It has now been discontinued for Mac OSX. As for Windows, I try to avoid this browser at all costs. From my understanding, hackers love to target this browser due to it is not so secure features. That might have changed in their latest version but I don’t use it enough. I only use thing when large sites are only compatible with Micrsoft Internet Explorer. Don’t ask me why site designers do this.

My recommendation for OSX, go with Opera if your Mac is not Intel based. Wait for Chrome as well once it comes out for Mac. Also, Firefox might be fine for those on Intel based Macs. Why does the neighborhood buck?

The future of Google Chrome

The future of Google Chrome

Google started taking part in the battle of browsers in early 2008 by releasing their browser, Google Chrome. The initial release was only targeted towards Microsoft Windows users. But during December 2009, Google released official betas for Max OSX and Linux operating systems.

Chrome has demonstrated that it can fight with the existing giants. Within a relatively short period of time, it has surpassed the market share of Safari and Opera. Currently it holds a significant share of 4.26%, being at the third place. The Internet Explorer still holds the majority of share of 63.6% while Firefox has gained 24.7%.

So far, there is a positive outlook for Chrome. Many existing users of Safari have reported that they like the improved response time with the browser. Also the browser is developed with user experience in mind, hence, has a very limited number of buttons and menu items. This gives the user a larger viewing area.

On a negative side, the browser is still in beta stage for Mac and Linux users. Some users have noticed the lack of control with their bookmarks a reason not the make the immediate shift. Most tech savvy users who are used to live with customized plug-ins with Firefox will also take sometime to shift to the new browser. Even though Chrome has extensions, it is still not matured.

In conclusion, Chrome has shown promising results so far. It is continuing to increase on market share in 2010 as it improves stability and overall user experience across all platforms.
