New York - A number of public phones in New York will turn into a touch screen with online access to information about the environment, as quoted from the mayor’s office on Monday.

The device will operate in several languages ??and is intended for tourists and residents seeking information about local restaurants, markets, or objects of entertainment, said a spokesman for the technological problems of the city, Nicholas Sbordone.
Will be available also a direct path to the number 311 which deals with non-emergency complaints and questions to the city government.
For now, the experiment will provide information screen, which will not have the ability to browse the web with an open, public phones located along the ancient double-chamber.
But if the pilot program success, the changes will be expanded to 12,800 public telephone system, adding the ability to consult via email and Skype phone calls.
“We are in the process of assessing what we want from a pay phone in the future of New York City as a whole, and this is one of the pilots,” Sbordone said.
A decision on the future of the phone may not be realized until the end of 2014, he said.
