Although the harmful effects of smoking have been known for decades, more people choose their daily habits. Perhaps most surprising is the number of young people who smoke. Harris and colleagues from the 2007 study, Schwartz, and Thompson, the United States smoke results in a regular college students 24.3%. Ha I said, “All together we know about the health risks associated with tobacco use, light in the first place, why people would start to ask you do?” The answer is undoubtedly complex and varies from person, some common elements exists.
Why do people smoke ??
For some people, “” or “fun” I started smoking because of curiosity seems to be too cool. Illegal nature of smoking, as well as lighting for the first part of the attraction may be. Some simply the smell of smoking or tobacco shed light on is the act or process a pleasant find. Smoking also is a learned behavior. Children of parents who smoke are two of the other two kids likely to start smoking themselves. Children more likely to try smoking a cigarette with a friend who has. Childhood or adolescence or adulthood, peer pressure, whether it is called as an influential friend, or a desire to “smoke doeleun a member of the group” at school or work. People smoking, including stress relief to deal with the symptoms of depression, anxiety or other reasons, and especially for women trying to lose weight is.
What is the first simple, they are often still the main reason: a reason to start smoking nicotine. Nicotine cigarette drug discovery, and it is very addictive. Once the nicotine is reflected in the body, blood sugar, a little sink soon after, leaving people feeling tired and provides increased energy and a craving for nicotine more fuel rises. National drug abuse, smoking first naen taken up within 10 seconds on the effects of nicotine, according to fun. Effects wear off within a few minutes to complete. Reduced so rapidly because of the effects of drugs, smoking, experience withdrawal symptoms soon be a temporary remedy is another smoke. Withdrawal symptoms vary, but generally the symptoms irritability, cravings, reduce the speed I do not care, payment, insomnia, increased appetite. For most people, the physical withdrawal symptoms after smoking a few weeks, but some people may end last month.
Tobacco dependence also involves psychological factors. People develop repetitive behaviors that are strongly associated with smoking. They may smoke at certain times of the day, in certain locations or under certain levels of stress. Do you smoke while you’re driving or on the phone? With your morning coffee? When you’re out with your friends? After sex? The behaviors and routines people associate with smoking can be quite powerful.
How to Quit ??
It can be easy to pick up the habit but much harder to stop. However, it can be done! Try the following steps.
Address mixed feelings you may have about smoking. It’s not uncommon for people to want to stop smoking, while feeling that they are not yet ready to stop. Identify the reasons you would like to continue smoking, as well as the reasons you’d like to stop.
Make a list of the benefits of stopping smoking. Identify the benefits that are important to you, both short- and long-term. Remind yourself of these reasons regularly, especially when you’re feeling less motivated. You might want to keep the list where you keep/kept your cigarettes.
Keep track of the times and places in which you smoke every day for a week. It also is helpful to record your emotions or thoughts when you smoke. An excellent resource to use is www.becomeanex.org, a free online program sponsored by the National Alliance for Tobacco Cessation. It helps you to look at your personal smoking habit so that you can track triggers, in addition to providing other resources.
Identify the barriers to smoking cessation. By identifying barriers before you try to stop, you can start to strategize and problem solve.
Utilize supports. Consider joining a smoking cessation group. Group settings provide support and positive peer pressure to quit smoking.
Talk to your doctor about medications that might be helpful in your smoking cessation. There are several over-the-counter and doctor-prescribed patches and medications
that can aid in weaning off of nicotine.
Tell your friends and family that you are quitting. Tell them how they can help you, and encourage loved ones who smoke to quit with you, or at least not to smoke around you after you’ve quit.
Set a quit date. It is easier to quit if you have time to prepare mentally and physically.
Throw out all cigarettes after your quit date. Sometimes people keep cigarettes around to prove to themselves that they have the strength to resist their cravings. But why mess with such an important thing as your health? Do yourself a favor and throw away all cigarettes, lighters, ashtrays, etc.
Exercise! If smoking is how you deal with depression or stress, exercise is a natural and healthy way to get the same (or better) relief.
Seek counseling to help you deal with the psychological aspects of tobacco withdrawal and any associated anxiety/depression.
How people quit varies from person to person. Work to find the best strategies for you. Most importantly, keep at it. Many people try to quit several times before stopping successfully. Remember that each time you try to quit, you can learn what works for you and what doesn’t. Keep persisting and encouraging yourself, for an estimated 46 million Americans have quit smoking, and so can you.
