In this post I will be teaching you how to take advantage of a great program called XAMPP for windows it turn your pc in to a webserver this lets you host your website on your computer for free. XAMPP install an apache HTTP Server, PHP,MYSQL and Perl in one install so there is not configuring needed you can access it using a domain http://localhost. I use this to test out different content management systems like wordpress or joomla.

So let start install the program..

1) First go to XAMPP Download Page and the download should begin for XAMPP Windows Version there are different version for other operating system like LAMP for Linux but for this tutorial we will be install XAMPP for Windows

2) Once the download is finished click the file and the installation should begin leave the destination to C:\ or another destination if you wish then click install the installation should take about 2-5 mins

3) after the installation you should see a command prompt which say “ Should I add shortcuts to the startmenu/desktop? (y/n): ” if you want the program to add a short-cut to the desktop and start menu type “y” and press enter

4) now you should see “Should I locate the XAMPP paths correctly? Should I proceed? (y/x=exit setup): ” make sure you enter y” now n the next command make sure you type “n”

5) now press enter and press enter again now you should see a list make sure you type 3 and press enter once you press enter you should see the dilaog again this time press 1 and enter then you should see the “XAMPP Control Panel” now just exit this command prompt and go back to the control panel

6) now start apache, start MYSQL and finally start PHP once you have did that you can test your server by visiting http://localhost and you should see a screen with a logo of xampp and pick your language and that it is you have your own server running

7) now I will be teaching you how upload you website you have created so you how should a index.html webpage. First go to my computer click on the C:\ Drive or the drive there you installed XAMPP and once your in the drive where you install XAMPP —-> you should see a XAMPP folder click on it and go to htdocs and delete everything in the folder and move your webpage make sure you rename your webpage to index.html

and that is it in a later tutorial I will teach you how to point this to a domain name instead of using localhost to access your web-page to share this web-page with friends or family just give them your IP address the disadvantage of this is that to host your website you have to leave your computer on so people can access you website and if people are access your website infant they are accessing your computer so this could slow down your internet speed so I think even thought this is free there still be a charge for leaving your computer on so I think paying a hosting provider to host your site because most of the time its really cheap but most of the time you can find webhost which host your site for free but sometimes this means putting there ads on your webpage
